The Big News

The Big Question

There are many big questions in life. Why do I struggle with addiction? Why do I feel so alone and broken? Is there any meaning and purpose in life? Is there life after death? Does God exist? Does God love me? But the biggest Question is: how can I know God and have a relationship with him?

The Big Problem

The world is broken by sin and we all struggle with similar issues. We are all broken. We are all incomplete. We are all sinners (Rom. 3:23). Sin is our biggest problem and it is something that has plagued us since the beginning of creation. God created the world to be perfect and reflect His greatness, but mankind has damaged God’s good world. Because of the greatness of our sin and the holiness of God, we are separated from God and we are without purpose, joy, and hope (Isaiah 59:2). To make matters worse, God has promised that as the judge of the universe, he will not allow sin to go unpunished and he has determined that every failure will be judged eternally (Ecclesiastes 12:14). Therefore, we all are in a desperate position of need – unable to fix the problem on our own.

The Big Solution

God solved our biggest problem by providing us everything necessary to forgive our sin, remove our sin, give us purpose, and bring us into a relationship with Him. How did he do that? Through Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is God (John 1:1). He became a man by taking on flesh and being born of a virgin (Matthew 1:23). Because he was God, He was the only man to ever live a perfect life and not deserve death (1 Peter 2:22). Yet because of his love for you, he died a sinner’s death on the cross to take the punishment that we deserved (Romans 5:8). When Jesus died for you, the sinless God took all your sins upon himself so that you could be made clean and be forgiven and have a relationship with him (2 Corinthians 5:21). To prove his power over sin and death Jesus rose from the dead three days after his crucifixion and offers that same resurrected eternal life to you (Romans 4:25). Your life and eternity can have forgiveness, peace, purpose, and joy because of what Jesus did on the cross and through the power of his resurrection.

The Big Response

How should you respond to what God has done for you (John 3:16)? If you desire to receive Jesus and his forgiveness, we must simply receive this gift of God through repentance and faith (Mark 1:15). Repentance and faith are simply two sides of the same coin. Repentance is turning away from sin and faith is turning to Christ. What is in your life that condemns you? What is in your life that weighs you down? What’s in your life that is not pleasing to God? Simply let go of those things and grab hold of Jesus. The Bible describes this in this way: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:9-10,13).”

If you want to respond to the big news that Jesus has provided you salvation through his death and resurrection, ask Jesus to save you by praying something like: “Dear God, I know that I have sinned. I know that I need your help. I turn from my sins and I turn to you. Please forgive me. I believe that you died for me. I believe that you rose from the dead. I want to live my life for you because of what you have done for me. Thank you Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
